E-Vam Buddhist Study Group

Blog Quote of the week:

"Through self-liberating our conflicting emotions and discursive thoughts by allowing them to simply arise and dissipate without any grasping or fixation, we transcend any spiritual requirement to renounce, purify, or transform them. This is the unique skillful means of path mahamudra that inexorably leads to spiritual realization" -Traleg Rinpoche

E-Vam study group was started under the guidence of Tibetan master, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche. We begin with 20 minutes of meditation, inclduing meditation on the breath and a compassion meditation exercise. This is followed by a lively discussion of a book or audio video teaching. We meet at the Friends Meeting House (Quaker House) on Thursday evenings

We have visiting lamas and teachers come to Morgantown and to Saranam in Elkins to give teaching weekends and retreats.

E-Vam Buddhist Institute

Seeks to foster the study and practice of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism in the west, and offers a group and solitary retreats in their center near Albany. Julie from study group has been trained in this tradition under Traleg Rinpoche.

The Tibetan tradition involves a three vehicle (yana) approach starting with Hinayana which emphasizes personal liberation, and contemplations regarding topics like impermance and the unique opportunities we have for practicing the Dharma. Mahayana enhaphasizes compassion and the intent to become enlightened to help all beings. Vajrayana or tantra is a skillful means that is part of Mahayana in which different deities like the bodhisattva of compassion are visualized in order to better embody these qualities.
